Look up Danish vehicles in Google Sheets

Write a formula with the plate, and the cell shows the make, model, latest inspection or another field from Motorbay. Give it a whole column, and one formula fills the rest.

The add-on is submitted to the Google Workspace Marketplace and can be installed once Google has approved it.

1,000 requests a month are free, with no card. Each lookup is one request on your Motorbay plan.

= Google Sheets
=MOTORBAY("AB12345", "make")
=MOTORBAY_VIN(B2, "firstregistered")
=MOTORBAY_ID(C2, "modelyear")

  4. 4

Write a formula in a cell, as in the examples below.

The functions

Each function looks up one vehicle and returns one field. Put a comma or a semicolon between the arguments, whichever your spreadsheet uses.

MOTORBAY
License plate. Case, spaces and hyphens don't matter.
=MOTORBAY("AB12345", "make")
MOTORBAY_VIN
VIN.
=MOTORBAY_VIN(B2, "firstregistered")
MOTORBAY_ID
Motorbay's id for the vehicle.
=MOTORBAY_ID(C2, "modelyear")

Fields you can ask for

Leave out the field to get the make and model. Danish names work too, such as mærke, stelnummer and modelår. Every field the API returns is available as section.field. km is the odometer at the latest inspection in thousands, as Motorstyrelsen records it: 110 means about 110,000 km.

  • make

  • vin
  • plate
  • color

What the add-on may do

The add-on asks Google for three permissions and no more:

  • Work in the spreadsheet you use it in. It reads only the cells your formula gives it.

    https://www.googleapis.com/auth/spreadsheets.currentonly

  • Call api.motorbay.app. It can't call any other address.

    https://www.googleapis.com/auth/script.external_request

  • Show its menu and the sidebar where you save your key.

    https://www.googleapis.com/auth/script.container.ui

Your data

Your API key is saved in the add-on's settings for your own Google account, never in the spreadsheet. People you share the spreadsheet with can't read it.

The add-on sends only the plate, VIN or id from your formula to Motorbay, with your key. The answer is kept in the spreadsheet's cache for up to 6 hours, so the same lookup doesn't cost another request.

It reads nothing else in your Google account and sends nothing to anyone but Motorbay.
